Obesity is state in which a person accumulates excess body fat.  Bodyweight of an obese person is generally more than 20% that of normal person and it is calculated on the basis of Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI is based on the comparison of height and weight of an individual.

The BMI value of a person is calculated by dividing the weight in kilogram by square of height in meters. Here, person having BMI value less than 18.5 is ‘Underweight’, more than 18.5 and less than 25 is ‘Normal’ weighing person, if it is more than 25 and less than 30 then the person is considered as ‘Overweight’ and person having BMI more than 30 is considered as ‘Obese’.

Eating Habits – Eating Fast food, Junk food, High calorie diet can helps to put on weight. Overeating is another cause of obesity.

Medical Conditions – Use of certain medicines and few medical conditions can lead to weight gain. Some medicines like steroids, diabetes medication, antidepressants can causes obesity.

Pregnancy – Women gain weight during pregnancy as it is necessary for healthy baby but then it gets difficult to lose weight after baby birth.

Alcohol – Drinking alcohol in excess results in weight gain as few of the liquor contains high calories.
